Meet Nick Vernon

My name is Nick Vernon, founder of Smith Rock Paving. I've been working in the asphalt paving industry since 2011, building my career through hands-on experience in nearly every aspect of the trade.

I began my career with Tri-County Paving as a laborer on an asphalt maintenance crew, where I learned the fundamentals of pavement preservation, crack sealing, seal coating, patching, and customer service while working on projects ranging from residential driveways to larger commercial properties. As I gained experience, I took on additional responsibilities assisting asphalt paving crews with patching and paving operations before becoming a full-time member of a paving crew.

Over the next several years, I developed a broad understanding of asphalt construction by working in multiple positions throughout the paving process. Wanting to expand my experience into larger infrastructure projects, I joined Knife River, where I progressed from laborer to asphalt paver operator and eventually to screed operator. During my time there, I gained valuable experience paving highways, roadways, commercial developments, and other large-scale projects while learning the importance of precision, teamwork, and producing a quality finished product.

In 2019, I returned to Tri-County Paving, where I continued expanding my knowledge beyond field operations. I assisted with asphalt plant operations, maintenance, and production while also transitioning into estimating. In that role, I prepared project estimates, worked with industry software including Bid2Win, Trimble, and CAD-based tools, coordinated with customers and contractors, and continued supporting field operations whenever needed. This combination of field experience and project management gave me a well-rounded understanding of every stage of an asphalt paving project, from bidding and planning to production and final completion.

With almost two decades in the industry, I founded Smith Rock Paving with a simple goal: provide honest, dependable asphalt paving services with quality workmanship, fair pricing, and clear communication. I believe every customer deserves straightforward advice, attention to detail, and a finished product built to last.

When I'm not working, I'm a proud husband to my wife, Stefanie, and father to our son and daughter. Family is at the center of everything I do, and I bring those same values of integrity, accountability, and hard work into every project our company takes on.

Whether we're installing a new asphalt driveway, repairing existing pavement, seal coating, or completing a commercial paving project, my commitment is to treat every job with the same level of care and professionalism I'd expect on my own property.

Meet Stefanie Vernon

Stefanie Vernon is co-owner of Smith Rock Paving and brings more than 10 years of professional healthcare experience to the company. Throughout her career as a registered dental hygienist, she has built a reputation for professionalism, organization, attention to detail, and providing exceptional care to the people she serves.

While Nick oversees field operations and paving projects, Stefanie plays an active role in the company's business development and long-term planning. As Smith Rock Paving continues to grow, she will oversee office administration, human resources, customer relations, and day-to-day business operations.

Although her professional background is outside the asphalt industry, Stefanie is committed to learning every aspect of the business and helping create an organized, customer-focused company built on honesty, communication, and exceptional service. Her experience managing patient care, maintaining detailed records, and working in a fast-paced professional environment brings valuable skills that support both the team and the customers we serve.

As a wife, mother, and business owner, Stefanie believes in treating every customer with respect, keeping communication clear, and helping ensure every project runs smoothly from the first phone call to the final walkthrough.
